In the first half of this year, I participated in the “Scientific Education Study Group” dispatched by the Ministry of Education. I visited some higher schools and secondary schools in France. I feel that compared with France’s mathematics teaching, the difference between secondary schools is greater than that of universities. Some differences exist. It’s still a qualitative difference. Here is a brief introduction to what I saw and heard. First, the characteristics of high school mathematics in France French mathematics teaching in middle schools, began a reform in autumn 1969, that mathematics teaching must be modernized to adapt to the development of modern mathematical sciences. This reform caused great controversy in France, some teachers said :“This is really a war!” After 10 years of continuous efforts by the reformist faction, the situation has now stabilized: Although the mathematicians inside and outside of this reform
