In early December 1989, the British Parliament and Science Council convened hundreds of parliamentarians, industrialists and scientists engaged in research and higher education at the Royal Gallery in the House of Lords. Under the auspices of the Duke of Edinburgh, A special speech to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the commission. The speech covered a wide range of topics, discussed science and its applications, and discussed science put forth in the modern world such as ethics and environmental issues. The following essay shows the view of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on basic research and its exploitation through industry.
