In this work, we first established a method for the determination of the Pd dispersion in the Pd / C catalyst by H_2-O_2 titration. The structure of Pd / C catalyst was studied by H_2-O_2 titration, naphthalene-sodium and alkali titration, X-ray line broadening and magnetic balance method, and the results were correlated with the hydrogenation activity of the catalyst. The relationship between the preparation, structure and activity of Pd / C catalyst was investigated preliminarily, and the structural characteristics of the catalyst which caused the difference in hydrogenation activity were discussed. High pressure liquid phase hydrogenation of benzoic acid is a structurally sensitive reaction to Pd / C catalysts. Research shows that graphitization
