我区地处黄土丘陵,群众历来有种乌桕的习惯。桕籽产量占全县的三分之一。但由于过去种植乌桕多数采用实生苗,品种混杂,而致产量很低(平均株产仅1斤左右)并有不少植株长年不结实或结实甚少。为提高乌桕产量,我们于1979年在钱村公社西何大队对不结实或结实很少的120株乌桕树进行环剥试验,效果显著。1980年春在全区推广,共环剥67920株。据后胡、伍联、东山顶三个大队185株环剥桕树测定,平均株产比前一年增加3.79斤。三个大队65株桕树的半株对
