三峡工程是开发利用长江水资源的一项伟大工程,它的建成在防洪、发电、航运等方面具有巨大的综合作用。但三峡工程兴建之后,会改变河口来水来沙条件,从而影响三角洲海岸的变化。华东师大河口海岸研究所徐海根(Xu Haigen)1987年7月在华东师大召开的《三峡工程对上海地区影响及其对策的研究》评审会上提出三峡工程上马后对三角洲海岸主要有以下两个影响:
The Three Gorges Project is a great project to develop and utilize the water resources of the Yangtze River. Its completion has a tremendous and comprehensive effect in flood control, power generation and shipping.
