After primary oral immunization with live or inactivated microbial antigens, specific antibody secreting cells (ASC) are temporarily circulated in the peripheral blood and these cells are derived from mucosal lymphoid tissue. The response of peripheral blood immunoglobulin A antibody-secreting cells after initial antigen stimulation is considered to be a mucosal immune response to a locally present antigen.
