Technical Features of 1.8 Mt/a RFCC Unit at Khartoum Refinery in Sudan

Khartoum refinery, which is a large modernized fuel-type refinery jointly set up by PetroChina and Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Sudan, represents the first refining project of China s overseas investment operated commercially according to international standard. The crude distillation capacity of this refinery is 2. 5 Mt/a, with a 1.8 Mt/a RFCC unit serving as the core of the refinery. This RFCC unit, which was put on stream successfully at the first attempt, has been operating smoothly for about five months. This unit has good risk-rcsponse ability while working flexibly at both high and low loads. When the FCC feed oil is lighter than design target and oil is of obvious paraffinic nature, the light distillate yield and liquid yield at this RFCC unit are in the range of 70% - 72% and 86% - 87%, respectively. The successful startup of RFCC unit in Sudan has symbolized the advanced level China has reached in the fields of design and R&D on heavy oil processing and major contributions of China s petrochemical industry marching towards international market.
