In this paper, we introduce some possible rules or rule chain inconsistencies and redundancies that are currently widely used in production-based expert system repositories, and give the techniques and implementation methods of consistency and redundancy checking. The method can help the knowledge engineer to establish and maintain the knowledge base effectively, and provide the foundation for the automatic knowledge acquisition of the system.
