Oxygen derived radicals such as peroxides, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl are highly reactive poisons. A small amount of this type of toxic substances produced by normal oxygen metabolism, enzymatic detoxification by endogenous cells. These intracellular enzymes are collectively referred to as free radical scavengers (FRSs) and include superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of oxygen-derived free radicals in the pathogenesis of experimental pancreatitis in dogs and the protective effect of FRS on experimental pancreatitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ex vivo pancreatic experiments were conducted with healthy mongrel dogs (18-22 kg). The pancreas was isolated under anesthesia with sodium pentobarbital (30 mg / kg), retaining the portion of the duodenum connected to it. Since the spleen artery, the mesenteric move
