This thesis focuses on the three major topics of translatability, translating and translator’s subjectivity in Benjamin’s translatory thought, putting it into the current research field of translatology to elucidate its value for the current study of translatology. Benjamin clarified from the perspective of ontology that translation is a kind of interdependent relationship between objects. It regards translatability as the inherent characteristic of the original works and frees the translatability problem from the never ending epistemology debate. At the same time, he attaches great importance to the originality and author status of the original works, liberates the translator from his submissive status to the original works and the author, and gives him the mission of supplementing and perfecting the original works.
