According to a recent randomized trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), folic acid supplementation with vitamin B6 and B12 after coronary stent implantation may increase the risk of restenosis. Helmut Lange, MD, of the Bremen Heart Medical Center in Germany and colleagues emphasized that vitamin therapy that reduces homocysteine levels has recently been recommended to prevent restenosis after angioplasty; Data on the level of risk of restenosis after angioplasty remain controversial. In this double-blind, multicenter trial, 636 patients who had successfully undergone coronary stenting were randomized to receive either intravenous injection of 1 mg of folic acid, 5 mg of vitamin B6 and 1 mg Vitamin B12, followed by oral administration of 1.2 mg folic acid daily,
