The British Maritime Information and Consultation Service was established in 1977 and is affiliated with the Marine Science Institute of the Natural Environment Research Council of England and formerly the British Oceanographic Services. The purpose of the Ocean Information and Consultation Service is to provide marine information, intelligence and related advisory services to any organization and individual involved in the marine environment in order to promote British marine science and marine affairs
