中华民国建立之后,政府的倡导与推动和民间的探索与尝试互为应和,冲击着中国传统思想文化的各个领域。职业教育也不例外,在19世纪中后期借鉴西方开始职教实践之后,有远见的学者开始尝试建设我们自己的职业教育理论,在民国成立至新中国建立不足40年间,有一个职业教育理论研究的热潮出现,可以说是今天职业教育原理研究的奠基时期。2011年教育科学出版社出版《二十世纪中国职业教育学名著选编》,将20世纪上半叶较为核心和重要的6部职业教育原理性的著作加以整理、再次出版,再现了20世纪前半期中国人对职业教育原理认识的原始概貌。
