北秦岭古生代断陷带是指夹持在瓦穴子—乔端—明港断裂带与朱阳关—大河—信阳断裂带之间的一个复杂的构造地质体,主要由二郎坪蛇绿岩建造和小寨复理石沉积组成。蛇绿岩中基性火山岩系在西峡一带以大庙组为核部组成向斜,二进沟组、火神庙组分别为向斜两翼,属同一层位;桐柏地区以张家大庄组为核部组成向斜,大栗树组、刘山岩组分别为向斜两翼,属同一层位。该向斜构造隔南阳中、新生界盆地相互对应,构成连续的地层、构造、岩浆岩带和贵金属矿床、金属硫化矿床、高铝矿物成矿带,为在南阳盆地以西的蛇绿岩建造中寻找金、银、钢矿床及在南阳盆地以东的小寨复理石沉积中寻找蓝晶石、红柱石矿床提供了佐证。
