君子人格理想是儒家人格修养的基本层次,就儒家观点而言,首先有一个学做君子的问题。为人为己之辨是古之学问第一要义。无论是性善论还是性恶论,都在力图为君子人格修养提供某种理据。宋以来理学家依据这两种人性论提出变化气质的主张,为人们向内探求提供了更为切实的理据。变化气质的方法归纳起来可说是反求诸己。儒家认为人们需通过漫长的自我修养过程,才可成就君子人格,达到中庸境界。
The gentleman’s personality ideal is the basic level of Confucian personality cultivation. From a Confucian point of view, there is a question of being a gentleman in the first place. Argument for human beings is the first principle of ancient knowledge. Either goodness theory or sexual evil theory, are trying hard to provide a justification for gentlemen’s personality cultivation. According to these two theories of human nature, Neo-Confucianism advocates changing temperament since the Song Dynasty, which provides a more practical basis for people to seek inward. To sum up, the method of changing temperament can be described as reverse seeking oneself. Confucianism believes that people need a long process of self-cultivation in order to achieve a gentleman’s personality and attain the golden mean.
