OBJECTIVE To study the anti-hepatocarcinoma effect of Volatile Oil from Butterflies in Chinese Medicine, and to analyze the chemical constituents of Volatile Oil from Buthus martensii on its basis. Methods The inhibitory effect of Volatile Components of Butterflies on the inhibition of human hepatocellular carcinoma SMMC-7721 cells was evaluated by in vitro evaluation. The chemical constituents of the volatile components of Butterflies were analyzed by GC-MS. Results The volatile components of Butterflies had obvious inhibitory effect on SMMC-7721 cells. Nineteen compounds were identified by their volatile components, of which sterols and ketones were the most abundant. Conclusions The volatile components of Butterflies are the effective components that play an antitumor role in the wood butterflies. The substances that exert their efficacy may be hydrocarbons, benzene, sterols, acids, esters, ketones and other compounds.
