This work observed the effects of indomethacin on alloxan-induced diabetic rats blood glucose, serum insulin and glucagon concentration. The results showed that: pre-subcutaneous injection of indomethacin can significantly reduce blood glucose levels in diabetic rats, and has a significant dose-effect relationship. At the dosage of 5, 10 and 15 mg / kg of indomethacin, the blood glucose concentration after 48h injection of alloxan was decreased from 591.5 ± 38.2mg% to 559.1 ± 53.2, 463.2 ± 16.6 and 266.6 ± 29.9mg% respectively in the control group. In the experimental group in which indomethacin 10 mg / kg was injected, the serum insulin concentration increased from 10.5 ± 2.7 μU / ml in the control group to 31.9 ± 7.0 μU / ml and glucagon decreased from 550.0 ± 27.0 pg / ml in the control group to 303.1 ± 22.9 pg / ml. Histological observations show that indomethacin has a significant protective effect against alloxan-induced rat pancreatic β-cell damage.
