由于铀系各核素的地球化学性质不同和迁移能力有所差异,所以在铀矿石中,铀及其衰变子体往往产生空间分离,出现铀与其衰变子体间的平衡破坏现象,主要表现为铀与镭之间的平衡破坏。因此研究矿石中铀镭平衡状态,对于分析铀元素的迁移路径及该矿床的赋矿规律具有一定的借鉴。同时对钻孔伽玛测井解释的修正、岩心取样等工作具有一定的指导意义。
