老上海也许会记得,在“一·二八”淞沪抗战前夕创办的《大晚报》曾经风行一时,短短几个月的工夫,它的销数便一举达到8万份,超过《申报》、《新闻报》等老牌大报在上海的销数,令报界不得不刮目相看。更重要的是,它使晚报从此在上海盛行起来,读者也养成了“一天看两次报”的习惯。而使《大晚报》获得如此成功的,是总经理兼总主笔曾虚白。
Old Shanghai may remember that the “Evening News” founded on the eve of the “January 28” Battle of Songhu was once popular. In just a few months, its sales reached 80,000, surpassing the “declaration” , “News” and other veteran newspaper sales in Shanghai, so that the press had to be admirable. More importantly, it made the Evening Post popular in Shanghai from then on, and readers have also become accustomed to reading the newspaper twice a day. What made the “Big Evening News” so successful was that the general manager and the chief executive had been fainted.
