As an ally of the National Government during World War II and the post-war period, the United States has been doing its utmost to support the Kuomintang, especially during the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist party. It is even more vigorous in implementing the policy of “opposing Chiang Kai-shek and opposing Chiang Kai-shek”. However, by early 1949, when the Kuomintang military and politics were both nearing collapse, they chose to relocate to the south. At this moment, however, the United States failed to follow the government’s southward move in accordance with international conventions and stayed in Nanjing’s choice of engaging with the CCP. This became a matter that made the parties feel weird at the time. In fact, the United States has been disappointed with the Kuomintang during this period and is trying to distance itself from the Kuomintang to avoid falling into a deadlock with the relations with the CPC.
