1990年12月,同样毕业于浙江美术学院的王劲松和宋永红在位于北京隆福寺街123号的“当代美术馆”举行了联展。这次展览很成功,来了很多同行参观。“我们俩当时的心态是严肃认真的,在展览开幕的当天还邀请了一些评论家,开了个研讨会,邵大箴、郎少君、栗宪庭、尹吉男、易英、范迪安、孔长安、周彦、黄笃、唐庆年还有一大拨的艺术名流等都来了,很是有些学术气氛。”王劲松曾回忆说。展览之后,栗宪庭找王劲松和宋永红长谈,并提出了“玩世现实主义”的概念。他后来曾写有一篇评述两人作品的短文,在北京美术界的“西山会议”上宣读,提到“泼皮”和“玩世”的词汇。
