美国黑人对平等价值的恒久追求、对种族平等权的积极诉求,不仅是其奋斗史的主旋律,而且也是当代美国处理种族问题的关节点。北美黑人对平等的认识历经从宗教回归政治,从道德走向权利的过程。殖民地时期,基督教把“上帝面前人人平等”和“人之价值与尊严平等”带到黑人头脑之中;黑人宗教、传统文化元素以及劳动制度在很大程度上加速黑人种族认同。进而,北美黑人对平等的认识由个人权利扩大到族群权利。
The long-standing pursuit of equal values by Afro-Americans and their active appeal for the right to racial equality are not only the main theme of their struggles, but also the key point in contemporary U.S. handling of race issues. North Americans’ understanding of equality goes through the process of returning religion from religion to morality. During the colonial period, Christianity brought “equality of all persons before God” and “equality of values and dignity of men” into the minds of Negroes; religious, traditional elements of culture and labor system of Negro greatly accelerated black racial identity . Furthermore, North American awareness of equality extends from individual rights to ethnic rights.
