明清以来,旧沔阳县市镇的变化可以归结为:数量由少变多,格局由原来“三大镇”转变为南北两个巨镇的对峙,最终演变为两个独立的县份。这一历史变迁,反映了江汉平原湖洼地商业发展趋势和特征,同时也显示了市镇在江汉平原湖洼地带经济发展中的重要作用。
Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the changes in the towns and cities of the old Xingyang County can be attributed to the change from less to more in number, the change of the pattern from the “three major towns” to the confrontation between the two giant towns in the north and the south, and finally the evolution to two independent counties .
