一、发展立体林业的重要性立体林业可以从空间和时间两种角度来理解。从空间结构上讲,森林是由处于上、中、下层的乔木、灌木和草本植物,包括动物和微生物多层次组成的协调发展的自然综合体。从经营效益上讲,它又有长、中、短三个收获期。因而又有人把它称为“多层次多效益的立体林业”。发展立体林业可以充分利用山地、丘陵、平原、水域、空间以及光、热、水、土、气等各种自然地理条件,提高土地和空间的利用率。立体林业是集约经营的一种形式,它对于建立以森林为主体的良性生态循环,多种经营,综合利用,活跃商品经济,有着重要意义。立体林业是多树种,多物种、多层次、多功能、多效益的综合林业。它具有面积广、潜力大、技术性强、效益高等特点。因此认识立体林业、研究立体林业,在当前,显得十分重要。
