Status Quo of Guangdong’s Development of Foreign Exchange-earning Agriculture Guangdong is an important export commodity base in China, of which agricultural exports have always accounted for a considerable share. From 1955 to 1985, the total export of agricultural products in the province increased from 129 million U.S. dollars to 1.068 billion U.S. dollars, increasing 7.3 times in 30 years with an average annual increase of 7.2%. By virtue of the conditions of neighboring Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese and numerous overseas Chinese, through the thirty years of hard work, Guangdong has initially formed the export pattern of agricultural products “mainly in Hong Kong and Maucao markets and mainly in the form of fresh products”. The Pearl River Delta has been initially built to serve as Shantou, Zhanjiang coastal areas for the two wings to the vast hilly mountain hinterland agricultural products export commodities base. However, for a considerable period of time, Guangdong’s foreign exchange earning agriculture has shown a relatively weak phenomenon. The rate at which the growth of export of agricultural products relative to the growth of the total output value of agricultural products dropped, and the relative value of the export value of agricultural products to the total output value of agricultural products also declined. During the “Sixth Five-Year Plan” period, the total output value of agriculture increased at an average annual rate of 7.5% while that of agricultural products increased only 5.5% annually. In 1985, the total agricultural output in Guangdong reached 17.485 billion yuan, while that of agricultural products was 1.799 billion, accounting for about 10% , Only 7.4%. The reasons for the above-mentioned backward conditions are complicated,
