The Japanese Metal Mining Corporation was commissioned by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry to study and construct an experimental plant for recovering uranium from seawater in Tamamachi Village, Kagawa Prefecture ten years ago. It has recently completed and started trial operation, and is expected to enter the experiment of recovering uranium from April. This is the first time in the world that the technology for extracting uranium from seawater containing only three parts per billion (3 ppb) has been used. This experimental factory opened up a road that uses uranium in seawater. The demonstration plant is lined with sea water intake equipment, filtration equipment, uranium recovery equipment, and desorption devices on a 11,000 square meter site. The experiment continued for 2 years, drawing 2,000 tons of seawater per hour, using a uranium sorbent, titanic acid, to bring the concentration from 1 billion
