A method of determining the friction factor by using anti-extrusion forging is proposed. The product of the bottom thickness and the forging load in the anti-extrusion test is taken as a measure of the friction factor. The advantage of this method is that the friction factor can be used in forming processes with higher contact pressure and increased fresh area, such as cold forging and forging.
