内燃牵引丹麦国营铁路自五十年代中期起,在长距离客货运输方面开始采用内燃机车。七十年代中期采用最新一代电传动内燃机车,即布朗博韦里公司(BBC Brown Boveri)研制的三相异步牵引电动机机车。目前已有37台投入运用中,每台的年走行达3×10~5km。这种牵引技术把输入电能经过一个中间直流电路转换成电压和频率可变的三相交流电,然后输入以坚固耐用著称的三相异步牵引电动机。牵引电机的转动力矩和转速可按实际需要
