当前世界空间活动主要是以苏、美、欧空局和日本为主,第三世界中除我国和印度已拥有自己的卫星和运载火箭外,其他国家尚无发射卫星的能力。巴西则步印度之后尘,已向国外购买了两颗通信和电视卫星,1985年初将由欧空局代为发射。与此同时,巴西正在研制自己的运载火箭和卫星,拟1989年底从新建的发射场发射,继而研制数椐中继卫星、气象和资源卫星。巴西在八十年代末和九十年代初将成为第三世界中的第三个空间国家。现将英国《国际飞行》周刊记者采访巴西空间活动的报道择译如下:
The current world space activities are mainly dominated by the Soviet Union, the United States, the European Space Agency and Japan. In the third world, China and India already have their own satellites and launch vehicles, and other countries have no capability of launching satellites. Brazil has followed India’s footsteps and has already purchased two communications and television satellites from abroad, which will be launched by ESA in early 1985. In the meantime, Brazil is developing its own launch vehicle and satellite to be launched from a new launch site by the end of 1989 and will subsequently develop several satellite relay satellites, meteorological and resource satellites. Brazil will become the third space nation in the third world in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
