作为一种实践性和操作性很强的研究领域与方法,美国口述史学的兴起与发展直接得益于现代技术的发明、创新与应用。而20世纪90年代以来,以个人计算机、智能手机与互联网等计算机、网络、通信、信息管理以及多媒体技术为代表的数字化革命(digital revolution)则给美国口述史学的发展带来前所未有的机遇与挑战。概括而言,数字化革命对于美国口述史学的影响是全方位的,它不仅极大地促进了更为广泛而深入的国际交流与合作,更为重要的是,它改变着记录、保存、编目、索引、检索、解释、分享与呈现口述历史的方式与内容,这些都将严重挑战以书写抄本为基础的口述历史的传统模式。
As a practical and highly operative research field and method, the rise and development of oral history in the United States directly benefits from the invention, innovation and application of modern technology. Since the 1990s, the digital revolution represented by computers, networks, communications, information management and multimedia technologies such as personal computers, smart phones and the Internet has brought unprecedented opportunities and challenges to the development of oral history in the United States . To sum up, the digital revolution has an omnibearing impact on oral history in the United States. It not only greatly promotes more extensive and in-depth international exchanges and cooperation, but more importantly, it changes records, preservation, cataloging and indexing , The ways and contents of searching, interpreting, sharing and presenting oral histories, all of which will seriously challenge the traditional model of oral history based on written transcripts.
