The No. 4 Oceanographic Survey Vessel of the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, which voyageed the Antarctic Southern Ocean on October 25, 1990, took part in the 7th Antarctic Scientific Expedition to China and has successfully completed its mission and returned to Guangzhou on May 3, marking the milestone of China’s ocean Geological survey work has entered a new stage of development. The “Ocean No. 4” survey ship made 17,000 km of geophysical profiles in the Antarctic south ocean sea area and made 43 geological stations, which are 166% and 215% respectively of the original design. A Geophysical Survey was conducted in the Shetland Islands in Antarctica, completing 339 geological points. On the way back, they also conducted a comprehensive marine geophysical survey in the waters of the South Pacific Ocean and its margins. In particular, the geological and topographical survey conducted in the Tonga trench, known as the second trench in the world, is by far the Chinese
