Charlotte Paige Gilman’s “Yellow Wallpaper” and Kate Chopin’s “One Hour Story” are both famous short stories that reflect the 19th century women’s struggle for their freedom and rights. However, the two heroines in different works I and Mrs. Mallard have different consciousness in the struggle for freedom and resistance to patriarchalism, and because of the social conditions prevailing at that time, their struggle for freedom ended with the price of madness and sacrifice. This article analyzes the differences between the two heroines in breaking away from the confinement of patriarchal power, interprets the feminist movement unconsciously and consciously gradually changing, and the destiny that the heroine is doomed to be miserable in these two novels .
