With the acceleration of the development of the times and the process of world integration, the cross-cultural exchanges between China and the West have also been expanding. This situation also gradually highlights the importance of cross-cultural communication between two different cultures. Intercultural communicative translation, as the main approach to intercultural communication, should be produced in response to the growing need of intercultural communication. In terms of the language of cultural carrier, different cultures use different languages to achieve intercultural communication. It is not only an intercultural communicative activity, but also a different cognitive process. However, the difference between different cultures leads to the non-equivalence of the two languages in the process of intercultural communication, that is, the “untranslatability” existing in translation. When the original author unconsciously omits the cultural content during the creation, the “cultural default” arises due to the unequal culture of the target reader and the original reader in the process of translation. On the basis of discussing the importance and relevance of Chinese culture in translation, this article proposes “Untranslatability ” and “Cultural Default ” in translating intercultural communication due to cultural inequality. Taking the example of Peking opera: bright pearl of oriental art in translation of Chinese to English, this paper further verifies that there are a lot of untranslatability and cultural defaults in Chinese-English translation of Peking opera cultural texts that are rich in cultural connotation Phenomenon, emphasizing that translators of cross-cultural communication should accurately grasp the meanings (internal and external) of the original author, as well as the difficulty of cultural defaults, so as to further study and propose appropriate methods of translating Chinese-culturally-loaded words And processing means.
