Literature confirmed that about 15% of pregnancy is an ABO blood group incompatibility. Using the direct anti-human globulin test (DAT) as the only diagnostic measure, only 2 to 10% of hemolytic disease were found in ABO pregnancies. With more sensitive techniques, the incidence can be as high as 71%. It was pointed out that in ABO hemolytic disease, DAT false negatives can be up to 70%. In order to evaluate more widely available screening results than ever before and to attempt to identify indicators that indicate the severity of the disease, all newborn umbilical cord blood was screened from January to June 1977. The procedures include blood type, Rh, DAT, indirect Coombs (antibody screening) and total bilirubin and direct bilirubin and other tests
