公民社会在中国曾被称为“市民社会”,并且沿用了黑格尔的批判,对公民社会的积极意义存在严重的忽视。事实上,在开放性的工业社会条件下,公民社会正可以成为市场经济下自主、个性道德观的培育空间,同时为推动民主政治和公民广泛参与社会事务创设平台,特别是对今日中国的和谐社会建设将产生积极影响。一方面,它可以从生活方式上改变熟人社会的状态,为公众的日常生活注入普遍性内容;另一方面它倡导理性、平等的交往原则,可以化解社会冲突和对立,通过催生公民道德而达到社会的和谐。
