Washington announced that it has “special value” to cooperate on a global issue of stratospheric ozone depletion. The United States-Soviet Joint Committee on Environmental Protection announced that a scientific conference on the issue will be held in Moscow in the near future. Studying ozone is one of 38 new science and technology projects adopted by the two countries during their meeting in Washington last month. The Soviet Union has a network of ground stations for a wide range of ozone measurements, but the measuring tools used in the Soviet Union are not the “Dobson” spectrophotometers used by the West as standard measuring tools.
