东孟加拉自我意识的怪象源于南亚次大陆的历史。当今的孟加拉国领土原处于英属印度的边远地带。首都加尔各答直至上世纪中叶一直是名副其实的文化中心。正因为如此,孟加拉电影业才在这里诞生和发展。1947年,曾经统一的国家因为宗教信仰而分裂。东孟加拉脱离印度,加入巴基斯坦伊斯兰共和国。然而,单纯依靠宗教信仰一致性并不能保证国家的统一。“印度教特性”和“伊斯兰教特性”相互作用的聚合体无法在国家各个方面都达到协同一致。而西部山区和沙漠地区恪守教义的伊斯兰教也比恒河和布拉马
The strangeness of East Bengal self-awareness stems from the history of the South Asian subcontinent. Today’s Bangladeshi territory was originally located in the remote lands of British India. The capital Kolkata has been a true cultural center until the middle of the last century. Because of this, the Bangladeshi film industry was born and developed here. In 1947, a once unified country was divided because of its religious beliefs. East Bengal divorced from India and joined the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. However, relying solely on religious coherence does not guarantee the unity of the country. “Hinduistic features” and “Islamic features” can not be synergistic in all aspects of the nation. And Islam, which abides by the doctrine in the mountains and deserts of the west, is also better than the Ganges and Brahma
