确定文章标题有三招

  一个好的文章标题(best title/headline)应具备三个特点:概括性(即抽象、准确而又简短);针对性(即标题外延正好与文章内容相符,“帽子”不大不小);醒目性(即新颖奇特,能引发读者急迫的阅读欲望)。以下三个技巧在提高解题速度和准确性上各具优势。
  一、正面肯定法
  准确把握文章的主旨大意:浏览文首文尾、段首段尾,找主题句;理解文章结构,揣摩哪个主题句或中心词概括性更高、更准确,并和备选项对照,做出判断。
  二、反面否定法
  撇开原文章,拿各个备选项去尝试用它们写出来的“文章”将是什么内容,然后和原文章对照,一一排除荒谬者。
  三、研究备选项本身
  研究备选项里面的中心词、修饰词的变化、结构、新奇性、概括力等。文章的标题应该新颖奇特,易激发读者好奇心,吸引读者注意力。
  综合使用上述技巧,效果更佳。
  【例】(2010广东卷)When something goes wrong,it can be very satisfying to say,”Well, it’s so-and-so’s fault.” or “I know I’m late,but it’s not my fault;the car broke down.” It is probably not your fault,but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation,you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the situation. This is the winner’s key to success.
  Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, ...... You should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well.
  This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents. So, stop focusing on “whose fault it is.” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stop on for success.

  [方法1]正面肯定法。第一段最后一句说,“这”(赢家碰到问题不是责怪别人,而是设法补救)就是赢家成功的秘密。第二、第三段第一句分别是这两段的主题句,说赢家擅长“克服问题”,把问题当作挑战和机遇。文章中尽管多次出现“problem”一词,但只是说赢家怎样对待“问题”而成功,故选A。
  [方法2]反面否定法。如果以“A Winner’s Problem ”为标题写文章,那么全文应主要涉及赢家会遇到哪些“问题”,诸如社会的、心理的、专业的、身体的问题,等等。如果以“A Winner’s Opportunity”为题做文章,则应着墨于“机遇”对成功的影响,即文章需着重论述赢家与“机遇”的关系。如果以“A Winner’s Achievement”为题著文,则文中应该谈及赢家的“成就”。然而都不是,故不选B、C、D。
  [方法3]研究备选项本身。A中的“secret”一词最吸引眼球,也最具概括力。故选A。
  【运用】请根据以上方法给下列短文选择恰当的标题。
  (2010辽宁卷)Too much TV-watching can harm children’s ability to learn and even reduce their chances of getting a college degree, new studies suggest in the latest effort to examine the effects of television on children.
  One of the studies looked at nearly 400 northern California third-graders. Those with TVs in their bedrooms scored about eight points lower on math and language arts tests than children without bedroom TVs.
  A second study,looking at nearly 1000 grown-ups in New Zealand, found lower education levels among 26-year-olds who had watched lots of TV during childhood. But the results don’t prove that TV is the cause and don’t ride out that already poorly motivated youngsters (年轻人)may watch lots of TV. ......
  In the California study, children with TVs in their rooms but no computer at home scored the lowest while those with no bedroom TV but who had home computers scored the highest.

  研究备选项本身:A选项外延太大,概括性很差。C选项的中心词是“studies”,成了“电视和大学教育的研究”,概括严重偏离主题。D选项的中心词“television”和“habits”成了并列关系,意思是“电视和孩子的学习习惯”,显然也偏离了主题。
  反面否定法:试着用各备选项作文,对照原文主旨,很容易否定A、C、D。
