When you need wide-band input and precision-average time, you can use an analog divider that is simpler and cheaper than a module divider or integrated circuit divider. The basis for this circuit is the difference between an analog multiplier that used opto-couplers and optocouplers in the feedback loop in the past, which had a single center-tapped photoconductor instead of the normally required photoconductive elements isolated from each other.
