十余年前,在古玩市场上买到一件青铜鸠杖首和用在杖尾的镦。杖首为一鸠鸟,鸠双腿弯曲蹲立在一管状銎节上,似在休息。喙至尾长8厘米,首至銎底高7厘米,銎节中空,外径2.3厘米。镦长7.5厘米,下端密封外径2.7厘米,上端中空外径2.9厘米,镦内有一节残杖,可以明显石出杖的外缘原缠有麻纤维涂有生漆。残杖外痕迹与鸠首及镦銎内痕迹相似,可证实它们原为一套。这显然是史书中所说的鸠杖。
