This free-lance career is his future Brilliant laid a solid foundation. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 won him the first photography glory: he sneaked into Afghanistan and captured numerous scenes of Soviet invasion, which made him overnight famous and won the “Robert Card Best Gold Award for Photography ”- This is the highest honor awarded to a particularly cautious American photojournalist who is particularly courageous.
