Li Xiaolin, President of the CPAFFC and the China Friendship Art Exchange Association (CFAEA), led a CFAEA delegation to Japan in November 2011 spending a total of six days between Tokyo and Niigata.

  Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda’s Meeting
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda met with President Li Xiaolin and her party on the morning of November 24. He extended congratulations on Li’s becoming CPAFFC president in September and said that China’s development provided an important opportunity for Japan and that strengthening relations between China and Japan was conducive to the fundamental interests of the two countries and had great significance to peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world at large. As the 40th anniversary of normalization of diplomatic ties approached, he hoped that Japan and China would take the opportunity to further enhance bilateral relations on the basis of their strategic relationship of mutual benefit.
Prime Minister Noda recalled his visit to China in 1984 as a member of the 3,000-strong Japanese youth delegation and called himself a “son” of Japan-China friendly exchanges. He said that the friendly contacts between the two peoples was a very important work and he hoped the CPAFFC and the China-Japan Friendship Association would make greater contributions to bilateral exchanges in 2012.
President Li Xiaolin first briefed the Prime Minister on the history and work of the CPAFFC. She then pointed out that, having fought on the battlefield, the older generation of Chinese and Japanese leaders with foresight and sagacity normalized the relations between the two countries and attached great importance to the cause of China-Japan friendship. The present younger generation should inherit, enhance and pass on the fruits of the established friendship.
“China has achieved fast economic development in the past 30 years since it adopted the policy of reform and opening to the outside world. But, it is still a developing country. Compared with Japan there is still a big gap. China has much to learn from Japan in urban management, new energy research and development, environmental protection and many other areas. As for Japan, China is a big market. So only through cooperation can the two countries achieve win win results,” she said.
Li also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Noda to visit the CPAFFC during his state visit to China.

  Recalling Friendship
While in Japan, the delegation made a visit to the headquarters of Soka Gakkai where it received a warm reception from Deputy General Director Hiromasa Ikeda. He first read out a Chinese poem his father Daisaku Ikeda had composed to congratulate Li Xiaolin on her becoming the new president of the CPAFFC, which reads:
High speed traveling makes the world small,
The saplings of friendship planted 40 years ago have grown into forest.
Joyfully to see the later generation shaking hands,
Never forget the wishes of the well-diggers.
Hiromasa Ikeda said, the poem fully reflected his father’s ardent hope for developing and consolidating the friendly relations between Japan and China and for the younger generation to carry on the cause. Soka Gakkai would, as always, pay great attention to the friendly contacts between the two peoples and make fresh contributions to Japan-China friendship. He briefed the delegation on the exhibitions and performances Soka Gakkai planned for 2012 to mark the 40th anniversary of normalized relations.
Though she has never met Daisaku Ikeda, President Li has fresh memories of her visit to Japan in 1998 at the invitation of Soka Gakkai, during which she received a telephone call from him everyday, inquiring about whether everything went smoothly with her visit and whether she was being taken good care of. And this time she deeply felt the great expectation placed on the younger generation to continue and develop the friendship cause expressed in his poem. Li asked the Deputy General Director to convey her thanks to Mr. Ikeda for the care and encouragement he had given her over the years and pledged that the CPAFFC would continue to cooperate with Soka Gakkai to deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples through youth, cultural and educational exchanges so as to safeguard world peace.
President Li Xiaolin visited Soka University in Hachioji, Tokyo where she received the Soka University Award of Highest Honor in recognition of her outstanding contributions to promoting world peace and Japan-China friendship.
President Li hosted a reception in New Otani Hotel Tokyo. Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi, Deputy Japanese Foreign Minister, Katsuhito Asano, former Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, Deputy General Director Hiromasa Ikeda, Takako Tanimura, wife of famous Japanese singer Shinji Tanimura, leading members of the Japan-China Friendship Association, Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association, Japan-China Society, Japan-China Economic Association, the Dietmen’s League for Japan-China Friendship, the Japanese Association for the Promotion of International Trade, Japan-China Friendship Center, the Matsuyama Ballet and Toray Industries, Inc. and representatives of business circles, totaling over 40, also attended.
In her speech, Li Xiaolin expressed her feeling of joy to be with so many friends old and new. She talked about the active efforts for opening up China-Japan relations made by the older generation of Chinese state leaders such as Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and his father Li Xiannian and Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka 40 years ago. She said, with the rapid economic development in China over the past 40 years, Sino-Japanese relations faced many challenges. She firmly believed that the leaders of the two countries would surely find ways to solve these problems with the wisdom and broad-mindedness of statesmen.
JCFA President Koichi Kato made a speech on behalf of the seven Japanese friendship-with-China organizations. He pledged joint efforts with the Chinese side to organize well commemorative activities for the 40th normalization anniversary.
