Purpose: To quantitatively study the memory present in the channel and to provide statistical methods for applying it to biomedical research. Methods: Stochastic processes were used to establish two types of short-term and long-term memory models, respectively. They insisted on two states rather than multiple states, but different metastatic mechanisms. Results: The two-state Markov process with constant transfer intensity fits the situation of short-term memory well, and the two-state Markov process in a kind of random environment fits the situation of long-term memory well. The method of parameter estimation The PC12 cell channel is used as an example. Conclusion: Memory in ion channels can be modeled quantitatively using a stochastic process with only two states.
