1872年4月30日，《申报》由英商美查等人在上海正式创办。1909年，《申报》被席子佩收购，从此为国人所有。1912年史量才接办《申报》后，坚持“外觇时代之需要，内课本身之使命”的办报理念，《申报》开始进入“壮年英俊有为的黄金时代”。
