Comments on the theory of vacuum breakdown and experimental conditions. Measurements made at a pole-to-pole distance of 0.015 show that there is no change in breakdown at about 10 -5 Torr to about 10 -7 torr and an applied voltage frequency between 0 and 6 MHz Little change. Changing the electrode material, geometry, and surface treatment did not provide significant improvement, but high pressure aging or treatment improved the breakdown characteristics 1 to 2 times. The cathode surface is shaped to protrude the increased field emission, causing the individual injected currents of the pre-firing current of the field emission to flow from the cathode to the anode. Pre-break through the current, make prominent part of the resistance heating and local electron bombardment anode heating, the evaporation and the destruction of both the effect can lead to breakdown.
