Effects of different levels of zinc and copper on blood lipid levels in rats were studied with male weanling wistar rats. The results showed that either absolute or relative copper deficiency caused elevated levels of serum cholesterol and triglycerides, whereas absolute or relative zinc deficiency caused mainly decreases in the concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and HDL-2-C. Correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between serum zinc and HDL-C and HDL-C, serum copper and serum cholesterol and triglyceride showed a significant negative correlation. Pathological examination showed that in addition to the control group, the morphology of the aorta of the other groups all had different degrees of pathological changes, especially the high zinc and low copper, high copper and low zinc and low zinc and low copper groups. Tip to maintain the appropriate level of copper under the premise of the appropriate amount of zinc to increase serum levels of HDL-C, can prevent or delay the occurrence of hyperlipidemia.
