该卫星由NASA和CNES(法国国家空问中心)联合研制。
Topex-Poseidon, the new U.S.-French oceanographic satellite, will launch its launch on August 10 with the “Carrier of Arian” (52nd flight). “Topex” is the English acronym for “Ocean Topography Experiment” and “Poseidon” is the French acronym for “Ocean Dynamics Monitoring, Observation and Comprehensive Studies”. In short, this is a study of marine topography and dynamics of satellites, referred to as “T-P ocean observation satellite.” The satellite was jointly developed by NASA and CNES (French National Center for Air Quality). The T-P Ocean Observing Satellite weighs 2402 kg and carries four U.S. instruments and two French instruments for measuring sea level heights, all
