Nutritional status may be an important factor affecting the activity of somatomedins. Children with Laron dwarfism have a low serum somatomedin, despite their high GH. This phenomenon also occurs in wasting and malnourished children. After increasing the nutrition of these children, somatomedin can be increased to normal. Research in rats found that dietary protein can increase the amount of trace elements such as zinc. This article studies the effects of zinc deficiency and zinc supplementation on the activity of somatomedin C (SM-C) in blood.
