北疆地区,特别是昌吉自治州一带,种植包蛋麦(春小麦临冬播种)已有多年历史。据调查,吐鲁番县早在三十多年前就有农民连年在小面积上种植包蛋麦。群众多年的生产实践与科研单位试验研究资料证明:种植包蛋麦可以调开冬、春小麦的播种期,缓和秋播和早春播种时机具、劳力和用水的紧张程度,延长麦收时间,减少损失和浪费。与一般春播的春小麦比较,包蛋麦能充分利用早春水分、温度等条件,根扎得深,分蘖多,穗原始体有较长分化期,穗的长度与小穗数增加,产量能高出10—20%;而且具有促进早熟、提高种子生活力、改善品种种性和减轻散黑穗病为害的作用。1960年北疆各地区在自治区党委“多种、种好包蛋麦”的号召下,包蛋麦的种植面积较历年
