Objective To understand the influence of blood trace elements on children’s intelligence development. Methods From February 2011 to January 2012, 920 children aged 2 months to 4 years were enrolled in the Child Health Clinic of Children’s Hospital of Hunan Province. The gestational age was measured by Gesell Diagnostic Scale The trace elements (copper, zinc, iron and magnesium) in blood were determined by BH5100 atomic absorption spectrometer, and the correlation between them was analyzed. Results The degree of intelligence development in children decreased with the decrease of zinc and iron in blood, but not with the content of copper in blood. It was related with the content of magnesium in blood in large movement and individual social energy area. Conclusions The intelligence development of children is closely related to the contents of zinc, iron and magnesium in blood. Effective health education should be carried out to rationally supplement nutrients and promote children ’s intelligence development.
